He let me walk up pretty close, plus I had the zoom lens on my camera. He must have been really hungry or he's just used to me being around.

That is a great picture. Guess we will have to see if Tim or Tammy have an opinion on downey or hairy. The stuff he's eating looks pretty yummy - may need two napkins! I can spare 'em...

I had the same problem with the woodpecker at my feeder and when I googled it it said the Hairys' outer tail feathers are white while the Downys' outer tail feathers are white with black spots.
Thanks! Downy's also a good bit smaller, right???
