It's Official...

The new bird house I bought has been chosen by chickadees for my first babies of the Spring. Stay tuned for more pictures. The shot with the nandinas in the entrance was yesterday when they were finalizing their choice. This morning I cleared the entrance and they began moving right in. How exciting!  (As always, click pictures to see larger images.)

My sister's hummers are back now in Senoia - happily eating at her feeder.

Sherri's Titmouse

HI

The titmouse is fun to watch.  When he chooses a small seed he will hold it in his feet and eat it.  When he chooses a large nut he flies off to eat it, or maybe share, I don't really know what he does with it.  I have not really seen that yet.

This little wren was singing at the top of his lungs this morning.  I just could not resist taking a picture of him.  Sherri

Sherri's Chickadee

Hi,
It is hard to get good pictures of the chickadee,  they come and grab one piece of food and fly off to eat it.  I still think they are one of the quietest little birds.

Please help me I'm faaaalling...

Let's hear it for the witches hat baffle!  See the squirrel fly?  Fly, squirrel, fly!  Do I enjoy this too much?

Susan

PS  For the squirrel lovers - I am one too.  My squirrels even have names.  They must enjoy this and it can't hurt to land as they have done it about 4oo times - today!  When he lands, he looks to see if I am watching and gives me a little "I meant to do that" smirk as he runs back up the tree to try again.

Butter Butt

Hey Tammy....this isn't a Pine Siskin like I thought, is it!  Is is a Yellow-rumped Warbler?  Lynda

From Tammy - Yes, this is a yellow-rumped warbler - often called a butter butt!

Sparrow Story

This little sparrow looks like he was out on a drinking binge last night, but more than likely, he just got full at the 'backyard birdie buffet' and needs a nap.

Ahhh....he woke up now. Lynda

Baltimore Oriole Hits Town

Not good pics, but FINALLY got a glimpse of the female Baltimore Oriole today!   I will have to try again.  I think the falling snow is confusing the auto focus on my camera...at least that's my excuse for now!  Lynda

Birdies in the snow March 01, 2009

Not very good pics...I don't have any experience taking snow pics...thank goodness!!

Thrasher with a snowcap on.

Little Chipping Sparrow I believe.

Mockingbird looks mad!  hehehe!!

This little Cardinal looks like she's saying 'please make it stop!'

Bad hair day for sure!

Even Momma Towhee came out for something to eat.

And a Thrasher...hadn't seen one on the feeders this winter at all!  He looks a bit

puzzled, eh?
