Who Am I?

Best I can figure is a female Red Winged Blackbird. It looks like the one in my bird book anyway! Lynda

Guess who's coming to dinner.....

This fellow's been hanging out near our feeders lately. We think he's responsible for killing a dove and a rabbit in our back yard. My guess is either a red shouldered or cooper's hawk.

Meet Bandit - the Cedar Waxwing

Today I was out filling my bird feeders when I noticed something moving in the nandina bush. It was a cedar waxwing - one of my all time favorite birds! I was only about four feet away from him at the time. I decided to attempt to get back in the house, grab my camera, and return without scaring him away. WELL, not only did he not go away then, he stayed for at least the next 45 minutes and I had to leave before he did. For all I know, he's still out there gorging himself on nandina berries. I realized as I watched him gobble down five or six berries in a very short time that he had probably eaten so many that he couldn't make lift off. It was odd that he was alone. In the past I have only seen these birds in large flocks. If you spend that much time at my house you have to have a name, so here's Bandit.

Steve's Feast

I counted about 14 finches on these feeders with more nearby at other feeders. They love the "Finch Feast".

Grand Pictures - Go Lynda! - Red-Winged Blackbirds

This is another first for me! Not that the Redwing Blackbirds haven't been on the feeders before, but I've never been able to catch them with the camera. I heard them this morning and as soon as I open the door, they take off. So I set up the tripod and remote clicker. A few hours later, I heard them squawking and saw them on the feeder. I CRAWLED into the sunroom so they wouldn't fly away and just clicked with the remote. Pics could have been a bit sharper, but again...I'm just happy to get ANY pics of them!

This is usually all I get when I try to take pics of the red winged black birds! LOL!

Downey or Hairy Woodpecker, I still can't tell the difference!

He let me walk up pretty close, plus I had the zoom lens on my camera. He must have been really hungry or he's just used to me being around.
Susan, could we get
that napkin back please? : )

Worms, Please!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
These bluebirds are happy with seeds but would prefer mealworms. It looks to me like they are looking for me to bring out the worms! These guys are spoiled rotten! (As always, click the picture for a larger image.)
