Second house of Chickadee's getting ready to fledge. They sure enjoy the worms Mom and Dad are bringing them. (Click on picture to see larger image.)

Bringing Home the Groceries

I had to take this shot fast - too fast to focus - but I had to get this big, juicy, green worm!  Those babies must have loved that one!

Still Feathering (or Furring) the Nest

For the last few days I haven't seen any signs of the chickadees at the house they had worked so hard on.  I was thinking they had abandoned the project or something tragic had happened to the eggs or babies.  Well, today I finally see them adding a bit more dog fur to the nest.  Interesting!  I was expecting baby chickadees by now!  (As always, click on the picture to see a larger image.)

Dog Next Door to the Rescue

If I'm not mistaken, the furball in the chickadee's mouth is from the husky next door.  Resourceful little guys, aren't they.  In my reading about my new feathered neighbors, I learned that both chickadees build the nest, both incubate the eggs, and both feed the babies.  Chickadees are my kind of birds.  Contrast this to the hummingbird - where the female builds the nest, incubates the eggs, and feeds the young.  Poor girl!

It's Official...

The new bird house I bought has been chosen by chickadees for my first babies of the Spring. Stay tuned for more pictures. The shot with the nandinas in the entrance was yesterday when they were finalizing their choice. This morning I cleared the entrance and they began moving right in. How exciting!  (As always, click pictures to see larger images.)

Sherri's Chickadee

Hi,
It is hard to get good pictures of the chickadee,  they come and grab one piece of food and fly off to eat it.  I still think they are one of the quietest little birds.

Lynda's Suet Eaters

Here are some of the birds I've taken pics of eating my suet.  I just recently made some balls of suet and have been putting them in the Bluebirds meal worm dish.  They seem to like that as well as the cage. (from left to right, Carolina Wren, Grackle, Mockingbird, Red bellied Woodpecker, White breasted Nuthatch, Starling, Bluebird, Downy Woodpecker, bunch of Bluebirds, Carolina Chickadee and Bluebird, House Finch, Pine Warbler, Cardinal and Tufted Titmouse)  Lynda

Out Tammy's Kitchen Window

Tammy and Tim were able to watch the chickadees right outside the kitchen window. Talk to them at the WBC about birdhouses that might invite birds to your back yard! As always, click on pictures to see larger images.
