Mr. Piggy’s Pickle Jar

Brian (PTC) sent this one in. The squirrel is sitting on “Mr. Piggy’s Pickle Jar" - available for your entertainment at WBC…(that would be the pickle jar - you have to furnish your own squirrel!)

Same Feeder - Different Yard

Betsy's (PTC) red-belly woodpecker also loves the platform feeder. He seems to be enjoying peanuts, sunflower meats and seeds, pumpkin seeds, and dried cherries - WBC's Woodpecker Wise. Lucky bird!

Steve's Cardinal

Have all of you noticed how popular the platform feeder is with our bird friends? Steve's cardinal seems quite pleased with his options at this feeder.

Thank you, Steve (PTC), for the great shot of this beautiful bird!

Doug's Oregon Hummingbird

Doug took this shot in Portland. It's an Anna's hummingbird. Beautiful, don't you think? And according to hummingbirds.net, we have Anna's right here in Georgia. Keep those hummingbird feeders sparkly clean, fresh, and full and you might see this bird in your own backyard!

Thank you again, Doug!

Doug's Senoia Hummingbird

Doug got this shot on a visit to Senoia. He lives in Washington, D.C.

This female ruby-throated hummingbird is coming in for a snack of sugar water. Great shot, Doug!

By the way, Doug travels quite a bit and maybe we can talk him into sending pictures of hummingbirds from other parts of the country and the world.

There's really not much cuter that a young bluebird! He obviously loves the new pole system! Nice shot, Sherri. Thank you for sending this one in!

Those Pushy Titmice

When I first moved here from Michigan, I thought the sound of the Tuffted Titmouse was coming from my furnace! They have a tendancy to yell at me when the feeder needs filling.

The Cardinal Takes the Lead

Since the cardinal has edged into the lead in the favorite guest poll, I decided to post a shot of a female cardinal munching safflower seeds for today's post. This one was taken by Susan in Sharpsburg.

Lazy Woodpecker

Lazy Red-Bellied Woodpecker ... used to eat the cardinal mix, but finds the shelled sunflower seeds much easier to eat! Look, he can get 5 or 6 in his mouth at a time.

Mourning Doves On Cleanup Duty

The Mourning Doves are great for helping clean up the spills around the feeders. I took these out my window...you see how he/she is keeping an eye on me?

And the Choir Sang On

4 Eastern Towhee chicks nestled in the front hedge of our house in North Fayette County. Unfortunately the father met an untimely death from window strike, but mom continued to care for the chicks. She moved the chicks when the temperature jumped in the 90's last week. I have since seen what I think is the mother gathering food, so I expect the chicks are doing well.

(Thank you Brian for this great photo!)

Lynda's Bluebird

I'd hate to be a worm and have that be my last image on earth!

Lynda Helps Out the State Bird

The Thrashers like the Goldfinch's hulled sunflower seeds. They kept slipping off the little perches, so I cut a McDonald straw and made them some extensions. Seems to be working fine, eh?!

Susan's Chipper

We also tend to have quite a few critters that show up at our feeders throughout the year. This picture was actually taken last fall when this chipmunk was storing up groceries for the winter. Apparently safflower seeds are good to munch on during those cold winter months!

He's back at the feeders now but just enjoying the seeds and all his bird friends. I haven't seen him tank up lately but he does seem to run everywhere he goes. I really enjoy the chipmunks!

Indigo Buntings

Hi Everyone,

I got this shot about a month or so ago when the indigos had just arrived back in Georgia. They love the platform feeder and the patio mix and blubird pellets that I had in it. Click on the picture for a larger image.

Betsy's Cardinal

I see we have a vote for cardinal as favorite backyard guest. That vote could be from Betsy in Peachtree City who sent us this picture taken from her kitchen window. I'm sure it makes kitchen work much easier to have a view like this one! Click on the picture for a larger image.

Thank you, Betsy!
